Caravagio
The birth place of Caravaggio was near Milan. Its time period is from 1573 to 1610 made several monumental Canvases for the churches. One of the Canvases from this is “The calling of St. Mathen”. The realism in Caravaggio’s painting is such a kind that naturalism is needed to distinguish it from the earlier kind.
He was the most famous artist of Italy. He had done the work in both realism and Baroque style. His actual name was Michelangelo Marieida Caravaggio. But because he was born in the village of eastern Italy he was named after it and was called Caravaggio. He came to Rome in his youth age only and in the beginning only he sketched the youth and painted easy subjects. In which he was given the beautiful effects of light shadows.
Till this period e remained a realistic artist. Suddenly then he turned to religious and dramatic subjects.
He did the painting for the churches in which he has shown simplicity, poor-farmers and village life. He had even tried to show the feet of saints filled with dust in this painting.
In one of his painting “The death of the virgin”. He had shown the girl lying dead. He painted what he saw, so nobody liked his painting also because his paintings were not imaginative public customers and other artist started defaming him. He was proud of himself, independent and he liked to lead a simple life. He was a quarrelsome with a man murdered him he wandered here and there for 3 years. At least he found dead at the side of riverbank.
He did not go fame in Italy. But abroad Italy his style was given fame very much. Some of the artist of Spain are:- (a) Vilasca, (b) Revara.
They were most impressed y his art Peter Paul Rubens also respected him. Caravaggio was a reformer rather then a revolutionary. His figures and still life were painted with an objective typical in 19th century. Even in religious typical of 19th century crowded groups of painting, dress sketched from everyday life.
HIS FAMOUS PAINTING ARE:-
1. The death of the virgin.
2. Calling of St. Mathew.
3. Doubting Thomas.
