Cave-17
The ceiling of the main hall is excuisitely painted to resemble a shamiana. The principal wall paintings in main hall and the antechamber to the shrine are:
- Shaddant jataka on front wall to the left of main entrance
- Mahakapi jataka on front wall to the left of entrance
Hasti jataka on the front wall to the left of entrance;
A court scene in the front aisle above the cell door on left
- Hamsa jataka in front aisle on left wall and extending on to the pilaster adjacent to it
- Visvantara jataka on the left wall
- Kapi jataka on the rear wall, on left
- Sutasoma jataka on rear wall to the left of entrance to the antechamber
- Buddha preaching in Tushita Heaven and after descending to the earth in antechamber, on left wall
- Buddha and his wife and son in the antechamber to the left of entrance to the shrine
The miracle of Sravasti in the antechamber on the right wall
Sarabha jataka on the rear wall to the right of antechamber
- Matriposhaka jataka on rear wall to the right
Matsya jataka on the rear wall to the right
Mahisha jataka on the rear wall to the right
Syama jataka in the rear aisle
- Simhala jataka extending along the right wall
- A lady holding a mirror on the pilaster between right front aisles
- Sibi jataka on the pilaster at the junction of right and front aisles, continuing on wall of the front aisle
- Mriga jataka on the front wall to the right of entrance
Nigrodhamiga jataka on the front wall to the right.
