KALA or ART
The origin of the word Kala or Art according to Sanskrit scholars is form the root Kal which means beautiful, sweet, soft or which gives pleasure.
In Indian classical literature art and art tradition have been elaborately discussed in Puran, Manusmriti, Kautilya’s, Ardhshstra’s vatysyaya’s, Kamsutra’s and other religious tent.
In India the word Kala or Art is set to be a creation from the conjunction of Dhato and Pratyaya like kal plus achplus tap. Both the Art namely find ad useful comes under Kala Music, sculpture, painting and Architecture and poetry and among the fine arts.
In Europe Kala is called as Art, the origin of this word Art is derived from a Latin word ars or arteem. These words have an origin from the root ar, which means to create, to produce or to fit. According to Plato art is the imitation of the truth. According to croche art is the expression of the outer impression. According to the above definitions styles may be different but all attached to the expression there can be no expression without craftsmanship. The outer expression can be called Art by practical point of view and the internal expression by real or philosophical vision but both are Kala. The ideas which arise out of the impression are expressed. The ideas arise by seeing the outer world and Consecration this expression of one’s impression is art.
Art is divided into two Categories 1st is visual and 2nd is Fine Art.
Painting, architecture, carpentering etc. come under natural art and embracing, Kissing etc. comes under secret art. Monio Williams divided the art into two, which is practical art and secret art.
Taking into account the normal division of art likes Fine and useful was further divided on different principal as follows:-
1. Based on forms and place.
2. Based on motion and rhythm
1. Based on forms: - Sculpture, painting, Architecture comes under the art based on form and place as it can be seen. But art based on motion and rhythm cannot be seen. Example: - music and pottery.
2. Based on eye and ear.
(a) That gives pleasure to eyes.
(b) That gives pleasure to ears.
(c) That gives pleasure to both eyes and ears.
Paintings and sculpture etc. give pleasure to eye music and dance give pleasure to both.
(3) Based on shape
(a) Solid.
(b) Formless art.
Paintings came under solid art so as sculpture, poetry and music under formless art.
(4) Based on imitation.
(a) Based on imitation
(b) Not based on imitation.
First of all painting comes under imitation because whatever painter sees he expresses it through the imitation which is known as abstract art. Sculpture is also based on imitation Architecture is an art which does not need imitation.
(5) Based on expressive
(a) Decorative.
(b) Self expressive.
(c) Imitative.
Art of make-up comes under decorative and sculpture comes under imitative art. Self expressive art is important under it, a man present his emotion through poetry, dance and painting. The artist expression himself this is expressionism in modern art.
Fine art is divided into three forms:-
(1) Symbolic.
(2) Classical.
(3) Impressionistic.
Under symbolic art the ideas are not expressed fully because of its being based on symbolic. But under classical art ideas are fully expressed because there is a harmony in ideas and shapes. Under expressionistic art the ideas and shapes are expressed more successfully.
