Avindernath Tagore
He was pioneer and the leader of Indian artist renaissance who synthesized the traditional Indian style with the west of China and Japan and started a style of painting which is called the Bengal school. He changed the artist point of view and created a new sprit of enquiry and of experiment and bold innovation among them as known as the father of Indian painting. He was creative and talented genius artist with sharp intellect.
He was born in Jorasaku near Calcutta on 7th august 1871 and Ravindernathe Tagore was his uncle. He was talented by birth. In the beginning he learnt foreign oil painting. It had with no Indian touch so he decided to mention the traditions of Indian art so he started a renaissance school E.B.Haveell inspired by Indian mythology and emotions. He infused the spirit of awaking among Indian artist in order to bring a revolutionary change and gave new shape to rajput. Mugal and Ajanta style.
Shri E.B.havell and Dr. Kumar Swami enhance the fame of Avindernath Tagore by exhibiting his painting with some religious themes like Krishan Lila etc. Historical paintings Tishyarakshta, Buddha and Sujata subject like portraits general life and landscape etc.
One specialist of his paintings is that they are all different styles with different mediums variety of subjects matter is also of his specialty.
He served the art of painting as a teacher of art and created a batch of students with the help of E.B.Havell. The Indian society London and the Indian society of oriental art exhibited there paintings on the International stage. Shri Avindernath Tagore contacted was a kangra painter he made him aware of oil Indian technique. Avindernath Tagore took his disciples to different old centre of art like Ajanta and Bagh etc. where he got paintings done in oil style of art. He also learned some art from the Japanese artist Mukahama.
Several art schools were opened at different places by his effort where mostly his pupils went as a heads of the same. Nand Lal Bose was the head of shanty Niketan, A.K.Halder and Somarendra nath gupta of Lucknow and Lahore Shailendra De and K.wankatappa at Jaipur and Mysoor etc. but because of some basic draw blacks Bengal School could remain alive for long and come to an end by the last days of Avindernath Tagore.
One of the reasons of the end of this style is the modern art. The effect of Renaissance movement of European art also came to Indian by the effect of the new Isms Bengal School was take as a hackneyed and only the copy from old schools and some people criticized it as rigid and conservation.
