Characteristics of Bengal School

1. The soul of Ajanta is clearly visible in Bengal paintings. The Bengal painters have tried to introduce the linear delicacy, rhythm and grace of Ajanta in their painting to the best of their ability.

2. Paintings were simply and normal.

3. Figures were delicate and graceful with no hardness anywhere.

4. Attractive color scheme with no bright and goddy colors to bring harmony wash technique has been used.

5. They have an impact of Mugal and Rajasthani School.

6. Delicately shown light and shade with no hardness.

Inspite of above qualities some drawbacks remain in this style as later on artist could not paint with that standard example: - Long arms, thin figures, half opened eyes, Din colors made them unattractive afterwards.
