Yamini Rai
Yamini Rai is among these artists who painted independently without being impressed style in India. Born in 1887 in Bankuda District of Bengal. This new style of painting which was fully Indian in Character. That is why his paintings were held in a high regard in foreign countries.
He was always busy in new experiment based on folk art with a thing of novelty and modernity even through they are traditional. In the beginning he painted portraits but was not satisfied so he started so he started a new style by the inspiration of rural life and folk art and was also inspired from patua’s of Kalighat.
After some time he painted in ultra modern style which was called the Indianization of cubism and impressionism of Picasso.
He did not use foreign colors but carried on his paintings by local and folk colors only. In beginning his art was soft, religious, simple, but in the later stage became dry.
The drawbacks which were left by him in the art were removed by Amrita Shergil.
