Erotic group can be classified into 6 basic types :
Type 1: It represents subdued or temperate eroticism and is non orgiastic in nature .It can be sub-divided into 2 parts:
- One man is seen with two women : It is a natural style of depicting the husband with his two wives. He is acting as a dakshina-nayaka or refined lover towards both of them.
- One woman is seen with two men : It show non- marital relationship, probably with a devadashi.
Type 2: It represents sanghataka relationship, described by kamasutra witers and involves three persons in highly erotic action.
It can be sub-divided into 2 parts :
- Where a man is involved with two women.
- Where two men have relations with one woman
Type 3: It depicts love making couple being helped by a male, female or attendant/attendants.
This type is divided into four sub-parts :
The attendants just stand by, sometimes holding a container, but without directly helping the couple involved in loving activities of a non-coital type.
- Attendants stand near a copulating couple.
- Attendants help the couple or one or the partners in sexual activity but do not themselves together participate in the sexual step.
- The attendant/attendants while helping the couple, are also shown in an excited condition and participating actively in the love-play.
Type 4: Vatsyayana calls this type goyuthika. Here,
- One man takes part in sexual activity with more than two women.
- and one woman participates with more than two men.
Type 5: It represents a regular orgy where many men and women simultaneously participate in sexual activity.
Type 6: Many couples participate in sexual activity at the same place and time.
