Characteristics of Patna or Company School of Painting
1. Depiction of General life: - The common aspects of life have been mostly painted. Fishermen, Ironsmith, carpenter, washermen, hawkers etc. have been realistically painted.
2. Social theme: - Nodepiction of royal splendors romanticisms like Mugal School. But the smallest event of social life have been painted because Britishars wanted to publish the poverty and popularize the civilization, culture and art of British as according to them was high and rich and try to suppress our greatness, artistic talent and aesthetic scenes.
3. Portraits: - portraits were in abundance very attractive and beautiful and great persons only. Generally indeed Chasma(1x1/2) faces in them in which light and shade was properly added and lines were so important.
4. Painting on Mica.
5. Firka painting: - Firka and Ivory paintings has also been done in this School. Firka paintings were those of general life, dresses. Daily life and different ways and means to earn a livelihood by common man were painted.
6. Animal Depiction: - Horses and elephant along with small carriage like Bullock carts.
7. Depaiction of festivals: - Social gathering some ladies used to paint such scenes Daksha Kumari and Sona Kumari were mentioned with respect. Artist Shiv Lal painted the Nikah ceremonies of Muslims, Holi, Diwali etc. By Gopal Lal.
