Mesolithic Age
475 painted caves are there red and white color has mostly been used but green and yellow colors are also visible at places. There is a beautiful depiction of animals like elephant, horses, cow, bullock, buffalo boars etc.
Neolithic Age
The important places where paintings of Neolithic ages are found are as under.
1) Mirzapur: - Romp, Chunar, Vijaygarh, Khorava Vabhante etc come under this area most of the caves have been found by the bank of river stone.Mostly the caves are at inaccessible places in jungles.Camoor ranges in the same area where pre-historic were found for first time in India.
2) Riagarh: - Navagarrth, Khairpur, Kalera Pahar etc. come under this area. These places contain painting. Most of the scholars have taken Singhanpur as a special place and this origin because of the red-brown color used here. Some paintings of symbols of abstracts sentiments are also found with mostly animals like boats; buffalo, elephant with raised trunks animals with haunts and an attack on buffalo by spears are painted or have been painted just near it the roof of the cave near kalera-Pahar is painted with red-brown color with stencil work along with them. Bataldav is another cave near by which is Jurlong long like a tunnel with animals painted on it.
3) PanchMari in Mashadev Parvat-Ranges:- Nimbu bhojh, Bazaar cave, chota mahdev etc comes under this region. There are paintings of daily life in addition to hunting scenes in which cowherd’s and honey collection are painted. In one scene a buffalo’s hunt by a mn riding on an elephant is shown. In bazaar cave a goat has been painted beautifully. These are white paintings with red out line. In Nimbu Bhoj and an instrument player in a family in white color is shown with many more paintings of horse rider various playing an instrument. There are paintings of all styles at Panchmari in Imlikhoh. Some paintings of new style in black color with red outlines are also found. Lions hunting scene is painted in Maradev figure of worries with bows and arrows, two paintings of worship of swastika and dance game sequence are also painted at Bania-Beri.
4) Hoshangabad:- It is situated at the distance of about 45 miles from Panchmari at banks of Narmade paintings of ancient types are done on many slabs of this hillock. There is a very big elephant painted in light yellow color. One big buffalo of 10feet white 6feet size is painted in double lines on the full upper part of the cave. In front of the yellow elephant a giraffe group is also painted. In this cave there are 5 or 6 layers of paintings of different ages and styles. By the side of the elephant lay so many warriors and horse riders of different style are also painted. There is a large pain ting of a peacock under a rock which has been executed by two straight lines. In another cave there is an ornamental painting of an ancient while goodness.
5) Bhopal:- Here the pre-historic art has been found in M.P.at Bhopal, Raisen, Katni, SagarPanna, Charapur, Gwalior, chambal valley. Bheem-Bhetika caves have recently been discovered here.
6) Utter Pardesh:- Because of being a part of Vindhya’s extention. Banda region is very close to M.P. Which craft and superstitions also come under this tendency of giving a definite shape to sentiments. In reality this human tendency is the root of man’s evolution. The life of pre-historic man is depiction in these paintings. Paintings of daily routine. Animals exercise. Some sort of witch craft over animals, killing and eating that animal, dance in hilarious mood are painted. During the Neolithic age, the pre-historic man started to worship an unknown power with Swastika like figure along with practice of some witch craft for his success.
