KISHAN GARH SCHOOL
The Jagir (state) which was inherited by the kishan singh (viii), the son of Raja Ujay Singh of Jodhnpur in 1609 is known as kishan Garh School. It is surrounded by Jaipur , Jodhpur, Ajmer etc. Rja Sawant Sinhg was the son if Raja Raj Sinhg in who’s time the Kishan Garh art reached its climax, born in Yashwant Singh of Bhan Garh at the age of 21. He was a scholar of hindi, Sanskrit and Persian also and expert in music and painting. He was a man of extra ordinary qualities and was a brave warrior.
The credit of taking Kishan Garh School to the climax goes to Raja Sawant Singh as he was a scholar, a critic and a good poet at well wrest in Hindi, Sanskrit and Persian.
He wrote 76 books including Rasa chandrika, Bihara chandrika, Padamukhtavali, Greeshma Vihara, Utsav mala, Manorath and Rasik-Ratnavali (his pen name was Nagridas). He painted and wrote poems on Bani-Thani (Radha) of Rajasthan. Earlier, the subject matter was Radha and Krishna. A portrait of Raja Sahasramal painted in 1616 was worth mentioning.
Bhavani Das, Surajmal, Nihal Chand, Meghraj and Seeta Ram were some main artist of Kishan Garh School. Nihal Chand was a chief artist who lived in the court of Raja Sawant Singh, painted beautifully and his work spread in other states also.
Subject Matter of Kishan Garh School
This school confined to court only the different subject matters and themes, earlier paintings were based on court or hunting scenes. Portraits were painted in large nos. Radha-Krishna were main subject matters ; Geet Govinda, Bhagwat Purana, Bihari Chandrika romance if Radha-Krishna, Nayika-Bheda, Bani-Thani, scenes of bathing and water sports of queens and Ladies of harom along with religious themes were the main favourite subject matter. The lake of Kishan Garh inspired the artist to paint water aports and boating scenes. Lak Bajra(red boat) and prem ki Nauka( boat of love) in which Lovers have been lively depicted. Festival scenes, the music assembly in the moon night is a beautiful painting in which Raja Sardar Singh was sitting with his courtier’s singers sitting in front of him. The background is full of real natural beauty. Kings saint, nawabs and emperors have been portrayed along with poets and Acharyas.
